Are A.I. bots a safe choice to shop for insurance?

We live in an amazing age of technology. When I first started in insurance, changes to a policy took weeks to show up. A policy binder was always ‘temporary’ until the company had time to review the application, pull the driving records etc. Now, both of those tasks take seconds and are completed in real time.

The newest innovation isn’t really in insurance at all - it’s in the marketing of insurance - and it looks like AI, but is it really?

In fact, what we are seeing is AI is getting better at targeting consumers. It learns from what you search for, what you read, how long you stay on a particular story, what you purchase, etc. The problem is that AI can be relentless.

You search for something, say on Facebook Marketplace. Next thing you know, you start seeing more and more ads for that thing you searched for. Even when you try and delete ads, more just pop up - becoming a game of whack-a-mole.

Ultimately, the strategy behind them is the same: Get you to buy their stuff by making it look ‘new’ or ‘different’ or giving it a fancy name.

The best way to win against them is by never playing in the first place. Call a local insurance professional near you. Discuss your situation with them and ask if they can get you some quotes. If you have a good rapport with them, consider working with them and establishing a track record.

You’ll never regret having a local agent in your corner!
